About
What is WiredAtom?
All the most basic elements in life (and non-life, and the universe actually) are based on atom. In essence, everything and everyone is in one way or another, connected, or… wired. Ok, I came up with this name during the philosophical phase of my life. So buzz off!
Over time, this domain became an open journal where my wife and I document and comment on our humble lives with some honest opinions. As an after thought, this is also where our friends and families can find out what’s happening with our lives.
Where did you go to school?
I attended International School Bangkok in Thailand. Upon graduation, I received a BFA in Computer Art from Savannah College of Art and Design. Most recently I just completed my MFA in Interactive Design and Game Development (also from SCAD). I also have a certificate in Unix System Management and Administration from University of California Santa Cruz Extension And prior to having Bryan, our two-year-old, I was only two classes shy of getting a certificate in Early Childhood Education (also via UCSC).
Grace went to high school in Ipoh, Malaysia. She completed her associates degree in Hotel and Catering Management at KDU in Kuala Lumpur. She also briefly attended Widener University in Philadelphia. Grace is also a very skilled piano player having been certified at level 7 from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music of UK. Now, if only we have a piano for her to play with…
What do you do for fun?
For myself, it’s mostly geeky stuff — blogging, coding, photography, trying out new shareware on my Mac… etc. I will get back into photography as soon as I can afford a better camera. I’ve been back in doing photography in full swing in a pretty serious attempt to go pro with it if my talent, skills and luck permit. Currently I own a Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro (basically a modified Nikon D200; told ya it’s serious). I am still using one legacy lens from my film days (Nikon 801s) with the rest updated to the newer Nikon D series lenses.
For Grace, she’s a very good cook having come a long way since her first dish she cooked for me (be warned: hotdog and instant noodles don’t go well together). She experiments new recipes on me from time to time. I attribute my sudden gain of weight to this (and our move to California).
We also spend time with our friends in the Bay Area when everyone’s not busy. But since Bryan’s arrival, all the attention is now on him. So we’ve now spent more time with friends with children of similar age group for play dates.
What do you use to run and maintain this site?
This site is run on a very secured and robust Linux server. The blog is powered by WordPress blogging app. Why WordPress? Because it’s open source, and I have a lot of control on every aspect of the platform.
I write and update my blogs on my outdated PowerBook G4 Titanium (800Mhz, just in case you Mac geeks are wondering) MacBook Pro using BBEdit Coda (or sometimes TextMate), Transmit, iPhoto, Aperture and our trusty Canon SD800 IS (previously Canon s230) and my Fujifilm S5 Pro. At times when I don’t feel like using any of the GUI stuff, I just use iTerm the terminal (I no longer use iTerm because the new OSX Leopard terminal now supports multiple tabs!) and SSH to the server and manage the blog via the command lines. To add images, I use ImageWell Skitch to quickly edit/scale/rename and ftp images to my server all in one nifty small app (beats having to launch Photoshop anytime). Sometimes when I need to take a full screenshot of a website, I use Paparazzi to archive any web pages I think I might need later.
Are you using any plug-ins?
Hell yeah… plugged the hell out of this blog.

Are you for hire?
For what? And it depends. Everyone has a price for (almost) everything.
What do you do for a living?
I “separated” from my previous job at the end of 2004 (damn start ups). I have been back in school ever since (an intense recharge of the brain once in a while is a good thing) until the winter of 2007. You can have a look at my resume if you think I could be of any help to your next project. I am also in the process of working on a portfolio site with Brian to get my photography venture off the ground. I am also going to send my hundreds and hundreds of slides and negatives to ScanCafe for a separate site for exhibits and shows.
Grace has been a house wife. With the birth of Bryan, she’s (happily) not going anywhere for a while.
