Octopus Attack
After having seen this video of a shark being attacked by a giant octopus, it reminded me of an article I read about remains of giant squid and colossal squids being found from the stomach of a shark. The same article also cites how it is common to see whales bear the scars from a fight with giant squids. Jesus Christ… fighting a whale?
And then today I read yet another article about this giant octopus attacking a submarine! Holy Christ… These squids and octopuses really kick ass.

Wait a minute. What do see with your own eyes in that video? Do you see an attack? That’s not what I see.
I’ve got a copy of that video, along with my young son’s audio commentary, up at Irregular Times:

Take a look at the video again. Does it really show an octopus attacking, or just a curious octopus that is then blasted away?
I think that this may be a case of viewers believing what they are told they are seeing, rather than what the video actually shows.

Hey Thanks… The video wasn’t available when I blogged the story.
You are absolutely right. News media once again sensationalize something that’s not there. And idiots like me just helping them propagate it before I got the complete picture. I wish I’d waited for the video before blogging it… Damn idiot…

Hey, I was sucked in to watching the video too. Nothing wrong with that.
But, there are many people now who, even after seeing the video, are trying to find excuses to say that well, the octopus obviously MEANT to attack, eventually.
It reminds me of Bush’s arguments for preemptive attack of Iraq.

I’ve read a very interesting book about the whole seaworld thing – whales attacking ships, jellyfish killing people and strange mutated worms digging the bottom of the sea…
It’s called the “The Swarm” and will be available in May: Amazon. It seems to have been 16 years of work and was at the top of the German bestseller list for more than 12 months.
It’s not only a thriller, but conveys the reader a big deal of scientific knowledge.
(By the way: Don’t read the synopsis, it gives away too much.)

Uh, I meant “conveys a big deal of scientific knowledge to the reader”.
