Freeloaders

I have been pretty disappointed at the donations I’ve been receiving from my Steve Jobs Stanford commencement speech download site. It’s not that I intended to get rich from the speech (of which the copyright I am sure belongs to Stanford University anyway), but rather, i am disappointed at the overall karma of the freeloader community.

Over 50,000 downloads of the speech have been recorded according to my server log. And I know for sure there are consistently about 150 people visiting the page on a daily basis (oddly enough, Japan and Korea are high on the hits). But yet only less than 0.0005% of the people who actually downloaded the clips made any kind of donation.

Is it so wrong to “expect” donations from other people because I took the time and effort to have done all the ground work? Or is it just stupid to even make it publicly free to begin with? If not for Murdza, the world probably would never have the chance to even hear it again.

Come to think of it, those 50,000 people who downloaded the speech owe it to Murdza for convincing me to make it available online.

That’s the way of life dude…
“Is it so wrong to “expect” donations ” …no. it’s not so wrong but
setting your expectations that way will only result in disappointment…
and why do you want to expose yourself to that huh?

I’m one of the freeloaders downloaded the clips without donation.
I really noticed your announce before download,Actually i don’t have an paypal account and i don’t want to get it because of some old fashion.I still want to say thanks to you.sometimes we just don’t know how to express our feeling, isn’t it?

yes, it is wrong to expect something in return when you give the option of a donation. if you wanted to expect something you should have sold it.

I have to say that i’m willing to obey some rule and I am gratitude of that you have taken your time and your effort doing such a great work. I’m a student from china, happy to be here. What I only have is the attitude to learn and the action to do some thing right, this speech inclueded. I didn’t have the credit card, sorry, but I will always treasure it. Thanks!
