Baby Formula and Bacteria

According to this article at BloggingBaby, formula-fed babies are pretty much screwed for the rest of their lives.

Sulphurous bacteria, a harmful substance that could cause irritable bowel syndrome later in life, is more likely to be found in the stomachs of infants who are fed with formula, according to a new study. What’s more, these infants also have fewer probiotic, or healthy bacteria.

Honey I know you are enjoying Bryan so much. I really like hearing about Bryan and your family. Your blog has a lot of info.
I am always amazed at the time you young parents put into research and discovery on new thoughts and ideas on child rearing. I don’t remember having that kind of time when my boys were babies. haha
I breast fed for 8 consecutive years and I don’t know if my boys are any better off or not. Me and my sibs were bottle fed and that was when cow’s milk was the food of choice( no prefab formula then) and we didn’t have the FDA watching as closely as they do now. Each generation learns a bit more than the last and we just need to keep in mind that babies have thrived and grown in every generation before us. Glean the good and chuck the bad tecniques that the older generation throws at you. There really is no absolute right or wrong way to do things……just different.

Hey, don’t give us New Age parents all the credit. Access to information is really a much easier task than, say, 10 years ago. There are websites dedicated to information about babies and parenting now — literally decates of reseearch at our finger tips. In fact, there’s so much information nowadays that it’s a skill to learn to back off from collecting too much information. :)

As for parenting, I agree that every child is different, and every generation learns something new. And newer researches are always refining better and, hopefully, more efficient ways to raising children. I guess we all just have to be alert on those things as parents. I just stand seeing parents who still smoke at their children’s presence, or twisting a 4-year-old’s arm to submission when he’s just being a boy…

About the bacteria discussed in that article, I am not sure how much evidence there is to back the research either. Live and learn.
